Reporting on "Love in the Bay Area"

So… I know, I’m slacking a little… The diligence and discipline I had when I started this writing challenge has faded a bit, but I can explain… 1) I’ve started to write about stuff that yes- even I am not ready to share with the world. Some things must be reserved for “the book.” 2) I’ve been gearing up for MY […]

Just want to date? 4 Tips from The Sex-Positive Parent

Last month Bedsider sent me to, The Bay (Berkeley, Oakland, & San Francisco), to talk to folks their about dating, relationships, and sex lives. [Side note: New vlog, “Love in the Bay Area” up Monday! Meantime watch one of my past Bedsider volgs] And in between talking to strangers about their personal stories, I reconnected with […]

PIMA Chronicles #14: Really though...

After my very-sad-day getting my IUD removed, I was writing about my experience at Planned Parenthood… trying to sort through a conversation I overheard in the waiting room, while also talking about my new birth control plan… but that post will have to wait until tomorrow. Something else needs to be addressed… and PIMA needs […]

4 Steps I’m Taking to Avoid a “Catfish” Situation

As a person who spends most of my life either on my computer or on my phone, I have never hesitated to online date. Sure, I’ve had creeps make me feel gross after they sent an inappropriate sexual “compliment” in a message… but that’s also happened to me on the subway. Just like I take […]

Love and career, 2012: Looking back, moving forward!

Last year at this time I was contemplating whether I could have both love and a career in 2012 and a year later… I still don’t really know. One thing I will say: by allowing myself to fully let go of the past, I did open myself up to meeting an amazing guy. A guy I did fall hopelessly […]

3 Ways to Deal With Political Differences in a Relationship

With Election Day just around the corner, I’ve noticed a lot of my Facebook friends being way less tolerant about political views that differ from theirs. I’ve witnessed “un-friending” announcements and call-outs in the comments of politics-related status updates. With dating and relationships on the brain (as always), of course I found myself wondering how […]

Love and Sex in 2012: What Are Your New Year's Resolutions?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So with that in mind: When it comes to Love, Sex, and Relationships- What’s your plane for 2012? For some inspiration- in my last Bedsider vlog I get a few resolutions “on the record”… Including mine! Check them out:

Learning from the past- without hurting my future

This is something I’ve been grappling with a lot these days. Especially now that I’m really putting myself out there in the dating field and thinking about: What am I looking for? And what are my expectations? One of my biggest rules is: I’m not going to your house, until I’m ready. And if that’s […]

  • Conversations by the pool

Met two women from Toronto by the pool. After we exchanged pleasantries for a bit, they asked about #Ferguson— they’ve been watching news about it all week, they said. I told them about #EricGarner (they hadn’t heard about him). They informed me someone else was killed by police in St Louie last night (need to fact check that). We bonded in our frustration and helplessness as the Costa Rican sun hit our face. They said they hoped this moment was our generations civil rights movement. I agreed, then got up to get a drink.

In this beautiful place wondering why it took me so long to come here. As with most things the answer is fear. Being that’s it’s Central America, more specifically the fear of being kidnapped or raped. A fear I can’t help but wonder if my fellow nomad-male-friends think about. Hate that I take comfort in the fact, most rapes are committed by someone you know. Ok. Going to stop thinking about this while on vacation.
